Research shows that nationwide in 2007 more bowlers bowled in the age groups of 6-11; 18-24; 25-34; 35- 44; and 45-54 but less bowlers bowled in the age groups of 12-17; 55-64 and 65+ (reported by the Bowling Proprietors Association of America).
Superior (WI) High School and White Bear Lake High School have made bowling a club lettered activity. Congratulations to all players and coaches!
Correction! The date for 2008's two early season MHSB tournaments has been set for Sunday, September 14, 2008. Coaches and players, please start planning now for that weekend so that your team can participate in the tournament. The southern tournament will be held at Holiday Lanes in Albert Lea. The location for the northern tournament is yet to be determined. Teams do not need to be defined as varsity or junior varsity. Players of all grades and skill levels are eligible to compete, but only one team per school is allowed to participate.
Maple Grove and Osseo High Schools are now recognizing bowling as a club activity. Approximately 25% of all MHSB participating high schools are now recognizing bowling as a club activity. Coaches and parents, keep up the good work!
Champlin Park High School has made bowling a club lettered sport. Congratulations to the players and coaches of Champlin Park HS!
The Metro West won the 2007 All-Conference Tournament at Flaherty's on November 24th. Finishing in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th were Metro Central, South East (East), and the Metro Northwest. More results coming next week!
Centennial wins the 2007 MQT! Cambridge-Isanti, White Bear Lake, and Owatonna will join Centennial at the 2007 state tournament. More results coming next week!
Apple Valley #1 wins the 2007 JV MQT! Maple Grove was 2nd and Lakeville South 3rd. Wayzata won the consolation bracket championship. Other teams joining these 4 teams at the JV state tournament are Sauk Rapids-Rice Gold, Totino-Grace, Spring Lake Park #2, Rochester Century, and Winona. More results coming next week!
The numbers are in! This season there are 20 conferences, 123 varsity teams, 98 junior varsity teams, and 1891 student athletes participating in Minnesota High School Bowling!
St. Charles High School has elected to make bowling a club lettered activity. Congratulations to the coaches and players of St. Charles High School!
Coaches may now earn their certification with the USBC over the Internet. Those wishing to teach new and lower level bowlers can complete USBC's introductory level coaching course - called Level One - online on bowl.com at a cost of $60. BOWLING, THE FASTEST-GROWING HIGH SCHOOL SPORT this decade, continued its upward climb in 2006-07 and moved past ice hockey according to the newest National Federation of State High School Associations participation survey.

A date and criteria has been established for captain's practice
The system for all-conference voting has changed (and we believe improved)
There will be a junior varsity Minnesota Qualifying Tournament (JV MQT) and a junior varsity state tournament
A dress code for coaches has been established
A system for teams bowling blinds has been established
Alternates for all-conference teams will now be allowed to participate in the All-Conference Tournament IF there are not enough all-conference members available to make up a team (tournament is 11-24-07 at Flaherty's Arden Bowl in Arden Hills).
OPTIONAL: Students can now be recognized for their grades if they average a 3.0 ("B") or better on their first report card of the school year. If a bowler chooses to be recognized for his/her grades the bowler can mail, fax, or email a copy of his/her first report card of the year to Josh Hodney at the Bowling Proprietors Association of Minnesota state office. Theresa Schroeder of Blaine has been named as a new commissioner of MHSB, replacing Tim Chirpich who took a job near Chicago.
Bloomington Jefferson, Bloomington Kennedy, Edina, and Richfield High School will be awarding club letters for bowling. The BPAM estimates that there are 24 schools that now award club letters for bowling.
It appears as though Mayer-Lutheran and Central High School (Norwood-Young America) will be awarding club letters for bowling
Three teams from the Fargo, ND area and a team out of Moorhead have formed a new conference. There currently is no high school league in North Dakota so Minnesota is allowing teams from the Fargo area to join MHSB in hopes that it will help North Dakota to start their own league.
