Here are just some of the many ways your bowling center can profit from being a member of the BPAM...
This tournament is bowling’ best kept secret. This is a members-only youth/adult tournament with $4,200 of scholarships available at the State level. The state champions in the parent/teen and parent/youth divisions advance to the international finals where additional scholarship money is available. This tournament is a great promoter of family bowling. Centers that run this tournament at the house level get $18 in linage for each team that enters. In 2006, a 24-lane center earned $3,392 for linage in the middle of May by hosting the State Finals. The center likely equaled that in the sales of food and beverages. Centers with as few as twelve lanes can host the state finals of this tournament.
Music Licensing
BPAM / BPAA members save approximately $27.00 per lane on music licensing fees to ASCAP, BMI and SESAC. A 12-lane center would save $324 annually on music licensing alone.
The BPAM awards $7,200 in scholarships annually and eight Minnesotans advance to the International Finals. Your youth bowlers must be USBC certified for you to run this tournament. In spring of 2006 the hosts of the eleven largest districts earned an average of $2,133.80 in linage. Moreover, district hosts claim that they do F&B to linage ratio of 1:1 ($2,133 in F&B!).
Benefits provided by BPAM districts
The state of Minnesota is divided into ten bowling proprietor districts. Several districts offer opportunities for centers to make money. Benefits your district may provide include: traveling tournaments and/or leagues for adult, senior, and youth bowlers; discounts on server training; rebates on advertising; and some districts bring in speakers or consultants to provide education. BPAM members in the metro district who sponsor high school teams get their $225.00 sponsorship fee paid for by the metro district.
The BPAA-Sysco Program
Sysco has partnered with BPAA to provide members with a highly competitive and value-added foodservice distribution and rebate program. This program is designed to reduce foodservice costs, while driving breakthrough revenue and profit contribution.
Contracted fixed margin percentages over Sysco’s landed cost to protect the BPAA member from “local street pricing.” Landed Cost is defined as the cost Sysco pays to manufactures for product. Price verification (audits) and contract compliance checks makes this distribution agreement solid and gives the member piece of mind, knowing that BPAA will ensure prices are in line with the unpredictable food market.
Consolidated usage reporting available through the Sysco agreement allows BPAA to leverage purchasing power directly with manufactures to negotiate rebates and lower costs on hundreds of key products used in member bowling centers. The rebates that are already available for participating centers include items such as, burgers, hotdogs, chicken wings, cheese and hundreds of other products. Members only have to sign up under the Sysco program and order from the rebate order guide.
This is a difficult program to pass up. By going with Pepsi Post–Mix Bag in the Box (BITB), and exclusively 20 oz bottles from your Pepsi Distributor (includes both Dr. Pepper products), BPAM members receive Pepsi’s national account fountain pricing (lowest available) and a $2.10 rebate on every gallon poured. The BPAM continues to work on securing pricing on 20 oz bottles for its members. Did you hear? Pepsi-Cola is giving four million dollars to bowling!
The BPAM retains Minnesota’s best lobbyist, Maryann Campo. In 2002, BPAA recognized the BPAM for having the “Best Legislative Campaign” in the country. The BPAM has been extremely active in major hospitality issues such as smoking bans, both at the local and state level. The BPAM proudly takes credit for Minnesota becoming the last state in the U.S. to enact .08 Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC). If it were not for the BPAM and the Tavern League of Minnesota, the .08 BAC bill would have passed in 2001, 2002, 2003, or 2004. Taxes are always an area of concern and the BPAM is working with the MN Department of Revenue’s special taxes division on alcohol tax issues.
This is BPAA’s computer database program that is available only to members. The same people who produced Win-Labs created it and the BPAA is subsidizing its members with hundreds of thousands of dollars. Proprietors who use it say it is a powerful marketing tool. Dean Torvick of Concordia Lanes will tell you that BowlerTrac has 1) Dramatically increased his business and 2) has done a lot of work for him he use to do himself. As a result, Dean now runs a more effective marketing campaign and spends less time at his center.
