Buchi Z Pizza has launched www.BuchiZPizza.com, which is the initial phase of a complete Web platform for the BPAA-owned pizza program. A second phase will act as a tool for licensed centers offering marketing support, recipes, etc., while the final phase will add a consumer component to drive traffic to licensed centers.

Smart Buy Partner EMPS/First Data ANNOUNCES a lower rate for credit card processing for BPAA centers: cost (interchange rate) plus 5 cents per transaction. This has been lowered from cost plus 7.5 cents because of good member usage and is estimated to save members already on the program an estimated $150,000 a year. Note: rates for others continue to increase. Centers on the program will automatically enjoy the reduction and need not do anything.

USBC's board of directors has approved several major changes to the USBC Youth programs that take effect in the 2009-2010 season. Key changes include: Bowling centers will have the option to directly process memberships, averages and awards to USBC; a USBC Youth Basic Membership ($5) option has been added for youths in leagues that meet for 12 or fewer sessions; Youth Awards program will undergo significant changes in an effort to better match awards to skill levels and USBC Youth membership will be available to bowlers who have not reached their 20th birthday on or before Aug. 1 of the current bowling season. BPAA's INCOM - a committee charged with center safety issues - has announced that free safety labels have been developed and will be provided to all BPAA member centers. The safety warning labels cover foul lines and ball return safety issues. All centers will receive a set of labels based on their center size.

The Board of Directors of the Bowling Proprietors’Association of America (BPAA), at its Board meeting on January 24, 2008at the Bowling Summit, unanimously endorsed the proposal for purchase of a building and land in Arlington, Texas for an integration of facilities with the United States Bowling Congress (USBC).

 

January 11, 2008

USBC now requires that all LANE CONDITIONERS MEET FEDERAL SAFETY GUIDELINES before they can be considered for approval and use in USBC-certified competitions. This requires that manufacturers of lane conditioners confirm with USBC that their products meet the U.S. Food and Drug Administration "Generally Recognized as Safe" (GRAS) standards under the Code of Federal Regulations. The FDA uses GRAS guidelines to test substances such as food additives and chemicals for safe human use or to ensure no ill effects occur if there is human contact with certain chemicals.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving’s (MADD) president and CEO both testified in favor of universal ignition interlocks at a recent Senate hearing. The group has begun its newest campaign for much stiffer DUI penalties in all 50 states, an effort designed to increase public acceptance of the devices. MADD’s state affiliates have begun looking for sponsors in their states’ legislatures for ignition interlock bills targeting low-BAC, first time DUI offenders.

It is now a 'cost plus' easy to understand rate structure processing at the Interchange rate plus $0.075 per transaction. Knowing that BPAA has uncovered any extra fees and eliminated them makes this Smart Buy program another "peace of mind" savings. Coaches may now earn their certification with the USBC right at their computers. Those wishing to teach new and lower level bowlers can complete USBC's introductory level coaching course - called Level One - online on bowl.com at a cost of $60.
